姉妹館提携協定書

　日本国広島県呉市の呉市海事歴史科学館（大和ミュージアム）と、アメリカ合衆国ハワイ州ホノルルのUSSミズーリ保存協会は、第2次世界大戦の終結70周年を記念し、姉妹館としての提携に合意した。両組織は互いを姉妹館として認める。当協定により今後は提携を更に発展させるため、以下の交流を推し進めるものとする。

• 20世紀の歴史のなかで、戦艦とその乗組員が果たした役割を検証し語り継ぐ。
• 第2次世界大戦後、日米市民が培った歴史観と、互いの文化を尊重する強固な絆を確認し、今後いっそう平和社会の構築に貢献していく。
• 学びの場、歴史を伝える場、学術交流の場をそれぞれに強化していく。
• 両館の行う教育プログラムを通して、青少年が交わる機会をつくる。
• 日米間の特に青少年の交流を強めながら、戦争体験を通して学ぶ機会をふやす。

　当提携は、終戦70周年を記念した歴史的資料の交換に始まり、今後は両館が実施する教育プログラムの交換にもつなげる。当協定書は、双方の理事会の承認を受けた後、姉妹館提携協定が合意に至ったことを適切な場で公表する。続いて両館の代表者が互いの館を訪問する。どちらかの館が合意を打ち切る場合は、相手に書面で通知したうえで、理由の如何を問わず60日後に解除できる。

　この覚書は、日本語と英語でそれぞれ２通作成し、そのいずれも正本とする。

この覚書は2015年9月21日に締結された。

MISSOURI/YAMATO SISTER MUSEUM AGREEMENT

To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II, the USS Missouri Memorial Association, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA and the Kure Maritime Museum(Yamato Museum), located in Kure, Hiroshima, Japan agree to enter into a sister museum relationship. Both organizations will recognize each other as sister museums. The purpose of this reciprocal agreement is to further develop a continuous relationship to support and encourage opportunities for beneficial exchanges for the purposes of:

• Preserving and promoting the history of the Battleships and the crews who served aboard them during the 20th Century.
• Encouraging continued focus on peace through cultural understanding and historical perspective that became the foundation of the post –WWII relationship between the United States and Japan.
• Fostering education and historical information and research exchange.Creating opportunities for youth of both countries to engage in on-site educational exchange opportunities
• Strengthening the relationship between the peoples of the United States and Japan, particularly youth, and increase their awareness of the lessons of war.

Initially, this relationship will lead to the exchange of historical artifacts to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the end of WW II, as well as education exchange programs conducted at both museums.

Each museum, upon approvals of this agreement by their respective Boards of Directors, will announce the agreements in an appropriate manner. Visits to each museum by their respective representatives will follow. Either museum can cancel this agreement without cause with 60 days’ notice in writing to the other museum.

Signed in Honolulu and Kure, in duplicate, in English and Japanese, each version being equally valid.

This agreement is entered into this 21st day of September, 2015.
